Brain Injuries

Traumatic brain injury (“TBI”) is an extremely serious injury that may result from a fall or a car accident. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), falls are the leading cause of TBI in the United States and car accidents are the second leading cause. The CDC estimates that the largest percentage of TBI related deaths, 31.8%, are from traffic-related accidents.

Traumatic brain injuries can occur when the external impact of a fall or a car accident traumatizes the brain. In many cases, external impact to the head resulting in a skull fracture or bruising of the brain (hematoma) leads to TBI. However, external impact to the head is not the only cause of a TBI. Sudden acceleration and deceleration during the crash of a motor vehicle that forces the neck to whip forward then back can cause trauma to the brain inside the skull.

Trauma to the brain caused by sudden acceleration/deceleration inside the skull has been known to result in TBI. Traumatic brain injury may lead to permanent or temporary impairment of the brain’s functions. Often, TBI initially presents as a concussion or a headache but, over time can evolve into a permanent injury that affects the victim over a lifetime. In my practice, I have successfully helped clients make a great financial recovery where they have suffered all types of traumatic brain injuries. Please feel free to call me if you or a loved one have suffered a traumatic brain injury in an accident.
